Hi SpellForce fans,

If you have technical problems please check the following things before you create a thread:
  • Do you have the most recent driver versions?
  • Are the most recent windows updates installed?
  • Make a detailed describtion of your problem!
  • A plus would be a screenshot of the error message (Druck key and then paste in a graphic program)
  • Create dxdiag.txt and ms32info.txt and attach it to your post so that we can classify your system:

    Direct X diagnose:
    To create the DxDiag.txt, please do the following:
    1. Run DXDIAG.EXE from your Start menu (click Start, Run... then type "dxdiag" and hit Enter)
    2. Click the "Save all Information" button, located at the bottom of the program window
    3. Save the file as "dxdiag.txt"
    4. Attach the file "dxdiag.txt" to your post ("Manage Attachments" in the post editor)

    Systeminfo:
    To create the MSInfo32.txt, please do the following:
    1. Run MSINFO32.EXE from your Start menu (click Start, Run... then type "msinfo32" and hit Enter)
    2. Click the "Export to txt" button.
    3. Export the file as "Msinfo32.txt" (do not save it as an system-nfo file).
    4. Attach the file "Msinfo32.txt" to your post ("Manage Attachments" in the post editor)

Log.txt

Please find in the folder: /Documents/SpellForce2/Diag the file "log.txt" and attach it to your problem-report.

As most of you are aware the majority of players on this new expansion will be playing it, or have bought it, through the Steam game client. And as every game which depends on a game client platform you should be aware of a few things:


-Steam downloads and upkeeps the game files on your disk drive, so if you're having issues with the game try and do some troubleshooting in Steam first by accessing the game's properties on Steam and going to the "Local Files" tab.

-As any web-based/internet request-based application, Steam client and any of its constituting parts will need a firewall and AV exception. So if it wasn't automatically configured you should take a look at the manual configurations and see if everything is as it should be.

-If you have a persisting problem with the game you can delete all local files and re-download and re-install the game. Don't worry about loosing your savegames because they're not in the Steam folder. So you'll only delete Steam files and not savegames, which are in your Windows' personal folder.

Since some issues playing FiD could be connected with STEAM, its client or your account there - rather than the game itself - please do also have a look in STEAM's support area:

***Mouse/keyboard problems - Access Violation issues***

VERY IMPORTANT

If you're experiencing any type of freezing issues on your mouse pointer and/or your keyboard isn't functioning in the game menus or mid-game please use the following solution, which has worked for people experiencing such problems:

-Set your font size on Windows' Desktop settings to 96 DPI (100%)

It seems that custom settings defined on your system can affect the game negatively, so keep an eye open for such things.


VERY IMPORTANT

If you're experiencing any type of "Access violation" errors that cause your game to stop working please try the following solutions:

-Manually install DX9 if you're on a DX10/11 based system.
-Go to the options menu in the game and turn the Shaders to maximum.
-Run the game in XP SP3 Compatibility Mode.

Only post your problem here if none of the above steps solved your problem.

Since you installed FiD, SW/DS/Gold-edition does not work

FiD and the predecessors both use the same file "config.xml" in folder SF2 below 'documents' in windows (where savegames are stored as well)
But FiD changed something within the config.xml so that SW/DS/Gold-Edition cannot work once you have installed FiD.

Here's a workaround to get them both working alternately:

Crash: Cutscene when following main story from Dugout to Malangar Greens

Some players experience a Crash (access violation) or "Game Over!" due to inevitable death of Avatar and Heroes when the cutscene that plays after you have returned from the Dugout to Malangar Greens, is not going to intended end.

Workaround to avoid this:
Before you leave Malangar Greens to go into Dugout - make sure that you have sweeped the complete MG map off enemies (Nameless and hostile creeps alike)

It seems that the cutscene crashes if there are unexpected enemies "in the background" that are not handled correctly.

If you already experienced this bug, go back to a savegame from before finishing mainquest in Dugout.
Return to Malangar Greens and thoroughly clear this map before returning and following story in the Dugout.
